“Volunteers are not paid – not because they are worthless but because they are priceless”
Non-profit societies like R.J. Haney Heritage Village and Museum offer several different opportunities for volunteers; our very existence is dependent upon the aid of volunteers. This is a unique experience to work in a heritage setting and meet new people while enjoying the relaxed atmosphere of the village. The village and museum offer several interesting areas in which you can put your talents to work and it does not need to be a large time commitment. Areas requiring help are as follows:
Reception Greet the visitors and make them welcome as you explain the history of the Haney property, museum exhibit and events. You will also operate the gift shop in the same area.
Dinner Theatre Help greet the visitors, serve refreshments or lend your talents to the cook in the kitchen as people enjoy the July and August productions.
Construction/Maintenance If you have special talents in carpentry or other trades or are just a good handyperson then lend your skills. The village always has an ongoing maintenance and new projects both large and small. Large commitments of time are not necessary but your talents would be appreciated.
Gardening The public garden, heritage garden around Haney House, pond area and the village site all on 40 acres requires much care and nursing. If you enjoy gardening then lend a hand for a few hours a week to keep the property looking beautiful.
Events Several volunteers are required to make our special events a success. We require individuals to operate the entrance, help in Marjorie’s Tea Room, parking, ticket and raffle sales, as well as help with activities associated with the event.
Benefits Volunteers will be given training while working in a historic, friendly, relaxed atmosphere. This will be the opportunity to meet new people while lending your much needed skills to the village. Socials with guest speakers are held during the season, discounts in the gift shop and tea room are extended and a volunteer appreciation night is held at the end of the season.
Have fun volunteering at R.J. Haney Heritage Village and Museum and donate a few hours to help the village meet its goal of collecting, preserving, displaying and educating people about the history of Salmon Arm and Area.
