There is something new added to the City of Salmon Arm’s website and the members of the Community Heritage Commission are thrilled!
The Heritage Commission team consists of three representatives of the museum association, three members of the public, one City Councilor, and support staff. We knew we had a problem. No one knew what we were up to! To solve the problem, we asked the City staff to add a “Heritage page” to the City of Salmon Arm’s website. We’ve been working hard since 2007 but it felt like we were keeping a secret!
When the Commission was formed, it was out of a concern for our changing landscape. We thought carefully about the built heritage and vistas that we want to preserve, knowing that we were guests on the unceded ancestral lands of the Secwépemc Nation. We consulted our community and came up with a plan. That plan, the heritage Strategy for Salmon Arm, is coming to fruition.
