Volunteers Needed


Dear Haney Volunteers,

Heritage Week is just around the corner, and we couldn’t do it without the help of our wonderful volunteers! This year’s 29th Annual Heritage Week, February 17-22, 2025, will be an exciting celebration of our local history. The festivities will wrap up with Family Fun Day on Saturday, February 22, at The Mall at Piccadilly—and we need your help to make it a success!

Here’s a quick overview of what’s happening during Heritage Week and the volunteer roles we need to fill:

Heritage Week Highlights

Online Auction: Running from February 17 to 22 with amazing items to bid on.

• Online Activities: On this Spot Walking Tour, scavenger hunt, colouring pages, and more for families to enjoy.

• Heritage Displays: Explore historical artifacts and photo exhibits at The Mall at Piccadilly from February 19-22.

• Family Fun Day on February 22: Live activities, the Best of the Shuswap Pie Baking Contest & Auction, and hands-on fun for the whole family!

Volunteer Opportunities

We have several shifts and roles available for Family Fun Day on Saturday, February 22.

1. Gold Panning Sleuth:

  • Shifts: 10:00 am - 12:00 pm | 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm
    • Duties: (Am shift sets up.) Show families how to pan for gold and keep the sleuth stocked with Haney Gold. (afternoon shift helps with cleanup.)
    • Volunteers Needed: 1 per shift.

2. Spotters for Pie Auction:

  • Shift: 11:45 am to the end of the auction.
    • Duties: Record information from winning bidders during the auction.
    • Volunteers Needed: 4.

3. Pie Baking Contest:

  • Shifts: 9:30 am - 12:00 pm | 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm
    • Duties: Morning shift: Help set up, receive pies and assist with the contest.
    • Afternoon shift: Assist with the contest, pie sales, and table cleanup.
    • Volunteers Needed: 4 per shift.

4. Pie by the Slice Cashiers:

  • Shift: 12:45 pm - 3:00 pm.
    • Duties: Handle cash sales for pie slices and help clean up the table.
    • Volunteers Needed: 2.

5. Event Photographer:

  • Shift: 10:00 am - 3:00 pm (or flexible hours within this time).
    • Duties: Capture the excitement and fun of Family Fun Day activities.
    • Volunteers Needed: 1.

6. Poster Distribution:

  • When: First week of February.
    • Duties: Distribute Heritage Week posters around Salmon Arm. This is a great job for someone who enjoys walking around.
    • Volunteers Needed: 2.

How to Sign Up: If you can help, please respond directly to this email or call me at 250-832-5243. Let me know your preferred shift(s) and role(s) so I can confirm your spot.

Planning is underway, so the sooner I know your availability, the better!
